Dr. Kalyanaraman Part of UF Team Awarded $200k Grant

The $200k grant will fund research into how immersive technologies, such as virtual reality (VR), can be used to assist veterans with movement disabilities and disorders.

Dr. Sri Kalyanaraman, Director of the Media Effects & Technology Lab (METL), is part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers at UF led by Dr. Sherry Ahrentzen, College of Design, Construction and Planning. The team will be developing and testing a haptic-based VR simulation tool called CODY (“co-design for you”).

CODY will enable individuals with movement disorders (specifically, PD) to experience and assess interior home alterations or modifications, as an intervention to improve movement performance. The project will allow the team to assess the efficacy of CODY to aid and enhance ability of Veterans and Service members to experience and choose appropriate home modifications.
