Enhancing Mother-Daughter Breast Cancer Communication: Culturally Tailoring
Funded by the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and STEM Translational Communication Center (STCC) (PI: Fisher; Co-I Sonke)

In collaboration with the Center for Arts in Medicine here at UF we are seeking to culturally tailor Fisher’s mother-daughter breast cancer research program by talking to African American and Hispanic women about their unique experiences. We are currently recruiting diagnosed mothers with adult daughters for interviews to learn about their coping experiences, focusing on how support and openness communication can function in adaptive ways. We plan to also develop a photo art exhibit and partner with the community to test the impact on providers’ and families’ perceptions and awareness of how breast cancer is a mother-daughter experience.
