The conference, jointly hosted by Sierra Leone and its Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC) and UNESCO, is in celebration of International Right to Know Day. The conference theme is “Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The Role of Access to Information in Addressing Information Disorder.”

Panelists from around the globe convened to focus on how to improve implementation of public record laws and ramp up proactive posting of government information. The event will also focus on how to use artificial intelligence (AI) appropriately, either as a requester or government custodian.

Every year on Sept. 28, the International Right to Know Day is a moment to take stock of the state of public records access. The United Nations marks it as the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI). Access to information allows people to see how public decisions are made, how public money is spent and who shapes those decisions. It also helps prevent and expose the corruption that thrives in secrecy.
