Mengyu Li to join UFCJC as a Media Production, Management, and Technology assistant professor in fall 2026
Mengyu Li will join the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Department of Media Production, Management, and Technology as an assistant professor in fall 2026.
Li’s research examines how emerging media technologies shape public attention, collective responses and democratic participation around political and social justice issues. Using computational and quantitative methods, she studies communication processes across networked, cross-platform and multimodal media environments. Her work explores topics including digital media, political communication, media effects, AI, social media activism and health communication.
Her scholarship has appeared in leading journals including Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, New Media & Society, Information, Communication & Society and Social Media + Society.
Li has just completed her Ph.D. in Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she also earned a minor in Educational Psychology focused on quantitative methods. She previously earned an M.Phil. in Communication Studies from Hong Kong Baptist University, an M.A. in Global Communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a bachelor’s degree from Renmin University of China.
In addition to her strong research portfolio, Li brings teaching and mentoring experience in data analytics, AI, media and communication and computational research methods. Her interdisciplinary and globally informed perspective will further strengthen the department’s growing work at the intersection of media, technology and society.
