Four UFCJC faculty honored with promotions and/or tenure

The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) announced that four faculty were granted tenure and/or promotion by the UF Board of Trustees for their exemplary service and scholarship.

Myiah Hutchens, Public Relations associate professor and department chair, has been promoted to professor. She is a political communication scholar and her research examines how communication functions in democratic processes. She joined the College in 2018 and was named chair of the Public Relations department in 2023.

Yu-Hao Lee, Media Production, Management, and Technology associate professor, has been promoted to professor. Lee joined the College in 2014. In 2023 he became the Center for Public Interest Communications research director and was also named a UF Research Foundation Professor.

Haoran “Chris” Chu, Public Relations assistant professor, was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor. Chu joined UFCJC in 2021. He is the graduate coordinator for Science and Health Communication and is an affiliate scholar in the College’s Internal Communication Research Hub.

Tyler Dukes, was granted tenure upon his hire as the Knight Chair in Journalism and Technology. He will join the Department of Journalism in fall 2026 after serving as lead editor for AI innovation in journalism at McClatchy Media where he led efforts to help more than 30 local newsrooms responsibly use data, automation and AI to strengthen reporting and better serve their communities.
