New partnership with the Jacksonville Jaguars opens doors for aspiring sports journalists

June 18, 2026

A new partnership between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the UF College of Journalism and Communications will make the WRUF radio station the official home for coverage of the NFL team for the next three years. This partnership, the first of its kind between the NFL and a top-tier AAU research institution, aims to expand coverage of the Jaguars while providing new opportunities for CJC faculty, staff and students.

“As leaders in their fields, the Jaguars and the University of Florida are uniquely positioned to partner as the first NFL team and elite research institution to combine gameday broadcast coverage with hands-on career development for emerging talent,” said Jaguars vice president of sales and marketing and UF graduate Chris Gargani. “WRUF spans a tremendous market opportunity for the Jaguars, and we are looking forward to expanding our presence to our large fan base and contributing to the professional development of UF journalism students through this one-of-a-kind relationship.”

Starting over the summer of 2026, CJC students will have access to many new experiential learning and professional growth opportunities thanks to this partnership. Working alongside WRUF staff and faculty, student reporters and photojournalists will be given the same experience as professional journalists. This includes dedicated positions in the press box, locker room and sideline access on game days and access to pre- and postgame press conferences. Their access extends beyond games too, with students also able to attend practices and training camp.

“We are committed to providing hands-on learning for CJC students, and this partnership will open up countless opportunities for our aspiring sports journalists,” said Hub Brown, dean of UF’s College of Journalism and Communications.
