Tyler Dukes named UFCJC Knight Chair in Journalism and Technology

Tyler Dukes will join the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) as the Knight Chair in Journalism and Technology in the Department of Journalism in fall 2026.

Dukes is an accomplished journalist, educator and innovator with extensive experience in investigative reporting, data journalism and artificial intelligence. He most recently served as lead editor for AI innovation in journalism at McClatchy Media, where he led efforts to help more than 30 local newsrooms responsibly use data, automation and AI to strengthen reporting and better serve their communities.

Prior to McClatchy, Dukes was an investigative reporter for The News & Observer and WRAL News in Raleigh, North Carolina, producing impactful public records and data-driven journalism. He has also taught journalism courses at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy for the past nine years and was a 2017 fellow at Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism.

As Knight Chair, Dukes will help advance the college’s leadership in journalism innovation, computational reporting and emerging technologies while teaching and mentoring the next generation of journalists.

Dukes has a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology and Society with a minor in Journalism from North Carolina State University.
