UFCJC student journalists, staff and alumni honored in 2025 SPJ National Mark of Excellence Awards competition
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) student journalists, staff and alumni, WUFT News and Atrium Magazine were honored in the 2025 Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) National Mark of Excellence (MOE) Awards competition. The awards recognize collegiate work published or broadcast during 2025.
The winners are:
- In-Depth Reporting (Writing): “The Price of Paradise” by WUFT Staff
- Television Feature Reporting: “The New Florida Follies: The Dance Stage Has No Age Limits” by Alex Land, B.S. Journalism 2026, WUFT
- Television Sports Reporting: “The Rodeo Kid: An Unlikely Teen Roper” by Juan Carlos Chaoui, B.S. Journalism 2026, WUFT

- General News Photography: “Prison Masonry” by Kade Sowers, B.S. Journalism 2026, WUFT

- News Videography: “Rebuilding Paradise: How a Florida Coastal Town is Bouncing Back After Three Consecutive Hurricanes” by Nicole Borman, B.S. Journalism 2026, WUFT
- Sports Videography: “The Rodeo Kid: An Unlikely Teen Roper” by Juan Carlos Chaoui, WUFT
- Personality Profile Writing: “800 Miles, No Shoes: One Migrant’s Journey to Freedom” by Nathan Thomas, Atrium Magazine
Winners and finalists were previously recognized by receiving first-place in one of the SPJ’s 12 regional competitions. Each first-place regional winner advanced to the national competition.
