Rebecca Frazer to receive $10,000 AEJMC Mass Communication and Society Division 2026 Faculty Research Award
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Public Relations Assistant Professor Rebecca Frazer and Tse-hsi Chien, M.A.M.C. 2026 and incoming UFCJC doctoral student, are the recipients of a 2026 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Mass Communication and Society Division Faculty Research Award.
Their proposal, “Perceiving the End of USAID: A Multiple Exposure Test of the Effects of Moral Influence Cues in News Media Coverage” received a $10,000 faculty research grant. These grants support proposals that examine meaningful questions within mass communication, with particular emphasis on work that engages societal or macrosocial issues.
Competitive proposals demonstrate how the research addresses the dynamic relationship between media, communication processes and society, aligning closely with the Mass Communication and Society Division’s mission to advance understanding of mass communication in its broader social context.
Each year, four competitive grants are awarded—two to faculty and two to students—to recognize and foster high-quality research at various stages of academic and professional development.
Frazer is a media psychology researcher, focusing on how people process and respond to story-form (narrative) media. Her work has examined psychological processing of narratives in a variety of contexts, including entertainment television, online news, terrorist propaganda and social media testimonials. She primarily conducts experimental research, and much of her work incorporates principles of moral psychology as a lens for understanding human responses to narrative.
The Faculty Research Award will be presented at the AEJMC 2026 Conference from Aug. 5-8 in New Orleans.
