Eugy Han and Kun Xu present keynote speeches at Meaningful XR 2026 Conference
Two University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Media Production, Management, and Technology faculty were keynote speakers at the hybrid Meaningful XR 2026 Conference at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication in Portland on May 30-31.
Assistant Professor Eugy Han and Assistant Professor of Emerging Technologies Kun Xu delivered two keynote speeches at the conference which is dedicated to exploring the transformative potential of Extended Reality (XR), which includes virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality. This event showcased how XR technologies are shaping the future across industries, education and beyond.
Han delivered her keynote “You Are Where You Are: The Role of Context in XR. Is there anything else that would be helpful?” at the conference venue. Her research focuses on understanding social interactions in immersive virtual environments, including virtual and mixed realities. Specifically, she investigates how contextual factors — physical, virtual and social — shape these interactions.
Xu delivered his keynote virtually. His topic was “Face tracking is Janus-faced: Presence, transparency, and privacy in virtual reality and human-robot interaction.” His research investigates how people perceive, process and respond to AI-based technologies, such as social robots, virtual humans and augmented agents. He also examines how people use virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technologies to maintain social relationships.
The Meaningful XR conference brings together a diverse community of researchers, educators, professionals and students who are passionate about how XR can enhance experiences and solve complex challenges.
