May 27, 2026

Jeongmin Ham and Won-Ki Moon, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Advertising assistant professors, are the authors of the 2026 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (AEJMC) Annual Conference Top Webtoon Research Paper.

Ham and Moon co-authored “Strategies for Increasing Webtoon Awareness in the U.S.: From Media Discovery to Cultural Signals” for the Webtoon sponsored research category.

Webtoon is a mobile-first, vertical scroll storytelling platform engaging over 160 million monthly active users worldwide, including more than 20 million in North America. The category focused on research examining how the platform’s storytelling format and fan-based community dynamics influence user perception, engagement and adoption, particularly in the North American market.

Moon also received one of two 2026 AEJMC Emerging Scholar Grants designed to develop and nurture Journalism and Mass Communication teachers and researchers by fostering an intellectually stimulating environment.

The 2026 AEJMC conference will be held in New Orleans from Aug. 5-8.
