Two UFCJC students receive prestigious scholarships from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Chapter

Paola Perez, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Media Production, Management, and Technology junior and Journalism Sports and Media junior Alex Vivanco were awarded 2026 National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Chapter scholarships.

Perez received the 2026 Bob Behrens Scholarship, which honors the legacy of former Suncoast Chapter Executive Director Bob Behrens who was dedicated to fostering excellence in journalism through philanthropic efforts. The annual award is given to a student who embodies enterprising journalism and innovation in the industry.

Perez was selected for her impressive body of work across broadcast and multimedia production, contributing to over a dozen projects at WUFT, including directing the live UF Homecoming Parade, working on “WUFT Amplified,” “Greater Good” and “Knight Talks” and piloting “WUFT On-Campus.” Beyond her accomplishments, she was recognized for her passion for storytelling and hands-on learning, consistently stepping into new roles with enthusiasm, creativity, and a strong commitment to growth.

Vivanco received a Suncoast Chapter Scholarship. While at the College, he has worked at ESPN 998.1/AM 850 as a “Sports Lab” radio host and show producer, served as a play-by-play commentator for the Orange and Blue Sports Network and as “WUFT News First at Five” sports anchor.
