CJC students use social media to raise money for local charities
Each semester, students in Social Media and Society (MMC 3630) work on a semester-long project to create real-world social media campaigns to help local non-profits. This year, students raised nearly three thousand dollars in support of local causes. Here are their campaigns:
Keep it Green and Clean
Created by Maja Hiller, Faith Franck, Lily Hartzema, Skyler Henry and Leo Graham, this campaign worked with Keep Alachua County Beautiful to provide support for environmental cleanup operations across Alachua County. Together, they raised $216, which will be used to purchase supplies for future cleanups hosted by Keep Alachua County Beautiful.

Bowls of Hope
For their campaign, Daniela Arteta, Ana Bonilla, Isabella Beach, Nicole Da Silva and Harini Burke teamed up with the Humane Society of North Central Florida to help with the care of their shelter dogs. They raised $379.90, which will be used to feed the dogs.

Gators Give Back
The Gators Give Back campaign, run by Eden Rothstein, Catalina Sanchez, Zoe Schneider, Moritz Przytulla and Scott Rhodenizer, partnered with St. Francis House and Arbor House to provide “Welcome Baskets” for those who are stepping into their brand-new homes and out of transitional housing. The campaign raised $420.

Support the Sound
Support the Sound was a collaboration with MusicGNV to support Gainesville’s local music community. Kenzie Kemerson, Elise Norman, Sasha Khan and Teagan Korte raised $1,439, which will be used to fully fund a three-song live recording session for the band Get Bent, a two-song live session for the band Noise Next Door and a one-song live session for the band Aisle 14.

Party with Primates
Joshua Stein, Zayra Trejo, Eric Williams, Jason Zandamela and Ryan Tong worked with Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary to help with the care of rescued monkeys. Together, they raised $505, which will go toward medical expenses and the safe rehabilitation and retirement of monkeys.
