Huan Chen and Haoran “Chris” Chu receive prestigious 2026 Page/Johnson Legacy Scholar Grants

April 7, 2026

Two University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) faculty members are the recipients of 2026 Arthur W. Page Center for Integrity in Public Communication Page/Johnson Legacy Scholar Grants. The Page Center selected only 11 projects out of 67 submissions from scholars around the world. Each will assess how corporate social responsibility, advocacy and activism are evolving in a polarized political and cultural environment.

Huan Chen, UFCJC Advertising Department chair and professor, and Washington State University Associate Professor Yoon-Joo Lee were awarded a $3,000 grant for their corporate social responsibility study “Costly Signaling and CSR Legitimacy in a Polarized Environment: The Role of Technology-Based Verification in CSR Campaigns.”

UFCJC Public Relations Assistant Professor Haoran “Chris” Chu and Northern Illinois University Associate Professor Shupei Yuan, received funding for “The Accountability Gap: Oral Typecasting and Stakeholder Evaluations of Corporate Course Corrections in Politicized Contexts.”

Since its founding in 2004, the Page Center has funded more than 350 scholars and awarded over $1 million in funding. While research themes vary from year to year, the Center consistently supports academic exploration into the understanding of principles practiced in public communication.
