UFCJC Grandstand Magazine launches inaugural print issue
Grandstand Magazine, a new print and digital publication by University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) students, officially launched the first print issue on March 31.
The magazine was created in the fall of 2025 by Journalism Sports Lecturer Ryan Hunt’s Advanced Sports Storytelling class. Editor-in-Chief Liana Handler and Managing Editor Noah White lead a team that includes over 20 contributors, seven print/graphic designers and multiple web developers focusing on storytelling that is creative, thought-provoking and engaging.
“It’s hard to believe that a little more than six months ago, we scribbled more than 100 names on a Weimer Hall chalkboard simply trying to find the right name. We then set out to build our identity: engaging sports storytelling. And we did just that. Grandstand is a project the students helped build entirely from scratch. It was incredibly rewarding to see them take a vision and run with it,” said Hunt.
The inaugural issue will feature Olympic gold medalist Grant Holloway on the cover. Holloway, a UF alumnus and three-time World Champion, won the honor in the 110-meter hurdles competition in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Other stories in the issue include an in-depth feature on gymnastics, the increasing cost of student tickets for sporting venues, online streaming issues, a vacated SEC Florida championship and a touching story about PGA Tour veteran Camilo Villegas personal loss and his quest to honor his child’s memory.
Hunt adds, “It’s one of the coolest experiences of my career, and this first issue is something every single person on that team will always be immensely proud of. I know I am. I’m already looking forward to building on this from here.”
Grandstand will publish digital features each week. The print edition will be published once a year.
