As interim chair, Hove provided steady, forward-looking leadership and guided the department through meaningful progress. During this time, the department:

  • Revised the sports and media curriculum to strengthen skills-based learning and technical expertise, adding seven new news courses pending University approval.
  • Developed a comprehensive strategic plan to be finalized this semester.
  • Hired more than 15 new adjunct faculty members to deepen industry-connected instruction.
  • Helped to increase enrollment by over 10% in one year.
  • Celebrated more than 60 state, regional and national student awards already earned this academic year.

A 2005 UFCJC Telecommunication graduate, Hove returned in 2017 and has since served as news manager, lecturer, associate chair, director of the Summer Media Institute and interim director of the Innovation News Center. He led the Innovation News Center’s (INC) transition into an academic unit, expanded its faculty and implemented a shared governance model. Under his leadership, INC students have earned more than 100 national, regional and state awards.

A champion of immersive, hands-on learning, Hove has led student reporting after hurricanes in Florida, Louisiana and Puerto Rico and organized reporting trips to the 2024 Republican and Democratic National Conventions and the 2025 Presidential Inauguration. In 2024, he directed the most comprehensive all-platform hurricane coverage in WUFT’s history.

He has mentored nine Hearst National Championship participants — including three national winners — and advised students who have earned multiple national and regional Murrow Awards.

Hove was named UF Teacher of the Year in 2021 and UF Faculty Adviser/Mentor of the Year in 2025, becoming just the second faculty member at UF to receive both honors.
