UFCJC student journalists and alumna honored in SEJC annual Best of the South Competition

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) student journalists and alumna were honored at the Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC) Best of the South annual competition. The awards recognized student work from 2025.

The winners include:

  • Best Sports Writer: Second Place, Journalism junior Noah White
  • Best Sports Writer: Fourth Place, Journalism senior Liana Handler
  • Best Photographer: Third Place, Journalism junior Matthew Lewis
  • Best TV News Reporter: First Place Journalism senior Juan Carlos Chaoui
  • Best TV Feature Reporter: Third Place, Juan Carlos Chaoui
  • Best TV Journalist: First Place, Kirstin Maselka, B.S. Journalism 2025
  • Best TV Journalist: Second Place, Journalism senior Alex Land
  • Best Multimedia Journalist: Second Place, Nicole Borman
  • Best Video Newscast: Second Place, UFCJC

The SEJC was created to encourage greater interest in student journalism and to form closer ties among journalism schools in the Southeast U.S. It is comprised of member colleges and universities in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. SEJC includes collegiate journalists in a variety of media disciplines that work on professional development and participate in the annual Best of the South Collegiate Journalism Competition.

The awards were presented at Georgia Highlands College in Cartersville, Georgia on Feb. 21.
