CJC Student Town Hall, June 17, 1 – 2:30 p.m.

Dear Students:

We are grateful to all of you who participated in our Student Town Hall on June 5.  We appreciate how much you shared and admire your courage for being open about what’s on your mind and in your heart.

We heard you and your desire for a continued dialogue, and are scheduling a second CJC Student Town Hall on Wednesday, June 17, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. We have extended the length to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to speak.

Here are some of the requests we heard and we hope to continue the discussion on these and other issues so the College can begin developing strategies:

  1. More concrete steps to address the issues of racial injustice and inequality
  2. More training to help students engage in effective activism.
  3. Increased diversity across the College: students, faculty and staff
  4. More discussion of race, diversity and equity in the classroom
  5. How to navigate the collision of values across all of our disciplines, particularly in journalism between impartiality and advocacy
  6. More diversity and awareness among Advisory Council members

The Town Hall will be moderated by Mira Lowe, Assistant Dean for Student Experiences and Director of the Innovation News Center, and Katrice Graham, Director of the Knight Division for Scholarships, Career Services and Multicultural Affairs.

To participate, please RSVP and we will follow up with log-in information.

I hope to see you there!
