WUFT TV/FM Receives Six 2020 RTDNA Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

WUFT-FM and WUFT-TV, operated from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, are the winners of six Region 13 2020 Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. WUFT-FM received four and WUFT-TV received two Small Market Category regional awards.

Radio awards for WUFT-FM include:
Best Overall: WUFT-FM
Best Continuing Coverage:Hurricane Dorian
Best Radio Documentary:Generation Gunned Down
Best Series:Acorn Clinic Closing

Television awards for WUFT-TV  include:
Best Innovation:Invisible Aftermath
Best Television Documentary:Generation Gunned Down

The 2020 competition recognized outstanding achievement in broadcast and digital journalism, technical expertise and adherence to RTDNA’s Code of Ethics. The competition received 5,000 entries from more than 350 radio and television news outlets from 49 states and four countries. The competition resulted in 750 awards in 14 regions for breaking news, continuing coverage, investigative reporting, overall excellence and more.

Region 13 is comprised of media outlets from Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Regional winners automatically move on to the national round of consideration, which includes digital news organization and network competitors.

Since 1971, RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in broadcast and digital journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards. Murrow Award winning work demonstrates the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
