Two CJC Students Honored in the 2018-19 Hearst Television Features Competition

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Telecommunication senior Grace King won first place in the 2018-2019 Hearst Journalism Awards Television Features Competition. Journalism senior Meredith Sheldon placed fourth in the contest.

King’s entry featured a compilation of stories she produced for the WUFT-TV “Life After Maria” news special on the anniversary of Hurricane Maria’s devastation of Puerto Rico. The news features included “Power Problems,” “Helping Hands,” and Water Everywhere.”

Sheldon submitted a collection of features including “Silenced: Joey Galasso,” “UF Homecoming: Teacher of the Year” and “The Archer.”

The winners were selected from 107 entries submitted from 60 schools nationwide. King, who will receive a $3,000 scholarship, will automatically go to the National Television Championship in San Francisco in June. As a finalist, Sheldon will submit an additional entry for the semi-final round of television judging. Four additional finalists will be chosen from this round to compete in the Championship.
