CJC Alumna Maggie Lorenz To Compete in Hearst Awards National Broadcast Competition

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications alumna Maggie Lorenz (B.S. Telecommunication 2017) is a top-five finalist in the 2016-17 Hearst Journalism Awards National Championship. Lorenz will now compete in the Television News National Championship in San Francisco from May 29 – June 2.

Lorenz submitted “Alachua County Lynchings” and “Turban Day” for the semi-final competition which led to her selection as one of the five finalists.

In this year’s Hearst Broadcast competition, CJC students placed first in Radio Reporting, fourth in Television News, eighth in Radio Reporting and 11th in Television News, placing UF in the top five for Intercollegiate Broadcast News – the first top-five ranking in this category since 2011.

Lorenz joins Journalism students Caitie Switalski and Drea Cornejo who will compete in the Radio and Multimedia National Championships, respectively.
