James Babanikos’ Short Film Selected for Florida Screening Event

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Telecommunication Professor James Babanikos’ short film, “Fred Turns Fifty” was selected for the 8th Silver Screen for Short Films (SSSF) screening event on Dec. 14 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

“Fred Turns Fifty” was written, directed, produced and edited by Babanikos. Houston Wells, Telecommunication lecturer, served as director of photography and camera operator and Charlie Mitchell, associate professor in the UF School of Theater and Dance, was the lead. The entire budget for the 20-minute film was $70 including original music.

SSSF celebrates, inspires and entertains by honoring short films that offer honest, exciting and thought-provoking portrayals of the world. The event features nine films followed by a question and answer session. One filmmaker will receive a $100 award.
