UF and Maryland announce partnership to co-host the innovative conference

GAINESVILLE, Fla. and COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Journalism Interactive 2013, a conference for educators, journalists, scholars and students to explore how journalism schools are meeting the challenge of the digital age, will be held at the University of Florida in Gainesville on Feb. 8 and 9, 2013, conference founder University of Maryland-College Park and UF announced today.

The universities also announced that the two journalism schools are forming a partnership to rotate the conference between Florida and Maryland.  Maryland hosted the first Journalism Interactive Conference in October 2011.

“We created the conference in 2011 with the aim of improving journalism education by fostering dialogue about new ways of teaching digital media and we are pleased to partner with UF in continuing these discussions in 2013,” said Lucy Dalglish, dean of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at Maryland.  “We intend to invite other universities to participate as conference co-sponsors.  We hope Journalism Interactive becomes the leading venue in fostering discussions on this important topic.”

These discussions are key to the ongoing success of our field.”

The third installment of the conference is expected to return to Maryland in 2014.
