University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications is proud to have four radio and two television stations housed within its walls.
WUFT-TV/DT
WUFT signed on the air November 10, 1958 with a mission to provide educational broadcasting to the University of Florida and other schools within the broadcast area. In the late fifties and early sixties programming emphasis at WUFT was on instructional broadcasts. With the later addition of locally-produced and public broadcasting service (PBS) programming and programs from other distributors, programming on WUFT began to emphasize British drama, political comedy, film classics, childrens programming, musical specials of all varieties and virtually "something for everyone".
News Five, a regular and professional weekday news program, was established
by WUFT in 1978. Using the best telecommunication students, the program
continues to report on news events of interest to the residents of North
Central Florida.
