Peter Seth Parker sits at his computer shuffling through a deck of tarot cards. He pauses occasionally to roll his eyes and gesture with his hand, mimicking how fast the woman on the phone is talking. When the call ends a few minutes later, Parker sighs in relief, “Finally.”

“Oh geez, I have some great stories. Some may be a little dirty though,” says Parker, who markets himself as HomoTarot, Gainesville’s gay psychic. “There was the woman finding out her boyfriend purchased a dildo on eBay and she hadn’t seen it. She wondered if he was gay. The whole thing was just great. It was so hard to hold back the laughter. Sometimes with the questions I get it takes a lot of self-control just to keep a straight… ahem… face.”

Parker conducts phone and email readings through Keen.com, a psychic advice website, from his Gainesville home and performs locally at the Book Lover’s Vegetarian Café. Combine Miss Cleo with Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and you have a fairly good idea of HomoTarot at work. Parker says women are his regular customers because they feel better talking to a gay man. “I’m not the stereotypical psychic,” he says. “No fancy robes, big hats or jewels all over my hands and face. I wear Express for men. I don't burn incense all over my house; I have Glade Plug-ins instead. All I can say is that I'm blessed. I have a gift that I don't even fully understand. I use it because I can. What's the point of having eyes if you don't use them to see?"
