The Gospel According to Prince

"Flowing. Rolling.
Glowing. Purifying me."

His lyrics soothe the soul like a mug of hot chocolate on a cold winter day.

His voice produces the sweetest lullaby to mend a broken heart.

UF Sports Management Senior Trevis Prince has a new sound that defies definition but invites the listener to experience God in an intimate way.

The twenty-four-year-old will release a CD entitled Divine Appointments in February 2003 which features 10 original songs.

Prince first moved to Gainesville in 1996 to attend Santa Fe and play basketball. After realizing his basketball career was not going in the right direction, he toyed with the idea of becoming a singer.

It wasn't long before the manager that discovered Usher noticed him. And soon after, local agents and managers were also vying for his attention.

Although they were of a secular nature, Prince's songs praised women and could have easily topped today's R&B charts. He was on the fast track to success when his life changed forever.

In the midst of what seemed to be a dream come true, Prince began a spiritual quest that laid the foundation for his worship music.

As he embraced Christianity, he realized that his gift of singing should only be used to draw people into the presence of the Lord.

He stopped singing and performing and waited for God to re-direct his path.

Now he wants to do more than just write songs. His mission is to become a scholarly psalmist, one who studies the Bible fervently and draws upon this knowledge to write songs of worship.

"I had a warped mind frame about Christianity and music before I got saved," Prince says. "Now, I realize that when I write, it is the Lord moving my hand. It's not about a church experience. I invite people to experience God with me."
