From as far back as 1959 the film industry
has been infatuated with B-rated films
about good ole reptilian mutation of one form or another. Here are
our favorite "gator" films.
The Alligator People (1959)
Mutated alligators are nothing compared to angry
women and this B-rated gem proves it. Abandoned wives are even worse,
and this one spends years tracking down her missing husband, only
to find him residing at his family's Southern mansion and transformed
into a mutated alligator after surgery gone awry. Can you say malpractice?

The Great Alligator (1980)
A resort owner shows his reluctance to allow
his lucrative African resort to close, even though a monstrous alligator
is devouring locals and patrons alike. Sources say that some landlord-tenant
laws were passed based directly on this film.
Alligator (1980)
It may be cheesy and gory but this gator flick
is generally regarded as a diamond in the rough among mutated alligator
films. Penned by well-known screenwriter John Sayles, this film tells
the story of Ramon the alligator, who was unceremoniously disposed
of goldfish-style as a baby. Ramon beats the odds and survives to
become a 32-foot terror by feeding on dead hormone-treated animals
and unexpecting humans.
Alligator Eyes (1988)
Three friends make the classic B-film mistake
of picking up a mysterious blind woman who's hitchhiking. In a story
twist only Miss Cleo could predict (wink wink) she seduces the men
and coaxes them onto a desert island where the title is soon demystified.
Alligator II: The Mutation (1990)
In a virtual carbon copy of the first, a baby
alligator is flushed into the city sewer system, this time filled
with excess toxic chemicals from a corporation toying with growth
accelerator. Equal parts B-rated film and social action film, this
beauty breaks no new ground nearly 10 years later.
