150 Things Every Gator Needs to Know

This year, the University of Florida celebrates its 150th Anniversary. To honor this milestone, the Orange & Blue staff compiled 150 facts that every Gator needs to know. Take them to your next trivia game and you'll be sure to blow everyone away with the extent of your UF knowledge.

1.There is a nuclear reactor on campus. Scary, but true. It was built in May of 1959 through the College of Nuclear Engineering as a teaching reactor.

2. You can see the instructor evaluation of each course on the web.

3. In the 2001 fall semester, 525 students from NY State enrolled at UF. That's the largest population of out-of-state students.

4. The largest population of foreign-country students came from India. In fall 2001, 486 students studied at UF. The second was China with 425 students.

5. Thirty percent of the 32,680 students at UF are in a fraternity or sorority.

6. UF is ranked 10th in the nation as having "dorms like dungeons."

7. UF's highest ranking as best party school was second in 2000, right behind FSU. Today, based on the use of alcohol and drugs, hours of study each day, and the popularity of the Greek system, UF is ranked fifth (with FSU ninth).

8. 1918: The University serves as a base for 400 soldiers during WWI.

9. The Reitz Union Game Room offers 17 pool tables, 16 bowling lanes and more than 25 video and pinball machines.

10. The Swamp Restaurant was originally a UF professor's home in 1915.
