Outside with Rex

Rex GrossmanThere is something special about Spring in Gainesville. Tanned bodies fresh from the Mexico sun swarm the pools, senioritis sets in on those who can smell graduation and Gator basketball fans are drunk with March Madness. But, on a field far from the pools and bars are students who hear March and only think of the sound of their cleats hitting the pavement.

The UF football team, following the beat of a different drummer this season, begins their practice in the Spring and for their leader, Rex Grossman, there is no break. He’ll tell you in his deep Bruce Springsteen-like drawl that he is that regular college student who enjoys the off-season. Then he hits Taylor Jacobs 40 yards down the field for a touchdown six months before it matters, and you realize he’s no typical football player, let alone a typical undergrad.

We caught up with “the boss” during Spring practice and asked him some atypical questions about his game, on and off the field, and his glory days in Gainesville.

Check out O & B's question and answer session with Grossman.
