Hynes’ story time

On July 1, Terry Hynes will become assistant vice president in UF’s University Relations Office. She will report to Vice President Jane Adams, who’s been overseeing government relations, public relations and marketing since 2004.

Hynes will work with the University Relations staff to develop a strategy to “better tell the UF story to major publications,” said Adams, a former Walt Disney public affairs executive.

Under President Bernie Machen, UF aims to become a top-10 public university.

Some argue UF already is one of the top public universities – many people just don’t know it yet.

“This is a jewel,” Adams said. “It’s an outstanding university with a broad base of expertise among its faculty. We need to be more effective in getting that message out.”

With her insight and contacts in an eclectic array of communication fields, Hynes is a “great match” for University Relations, Adams said.

Hynes already has a few ideas about where to start. “The university has many stories that need to be told,” she said, mentioning cancer research and biomedical engineering, among other topics. “These are stories that have an impact on a national and international level.”
