Foundation makes its first higher education contribution
Marking its first contribution to higher education, the Waterloo, Iowa-based W.E. Ruebush Foundation recently donated $100,000 to the College of Journalism and Communications.
The Florence W. Ruebush Endowment will fund scholarships and assistantships for undergraduate and graduate students. It qualifies for a $50,000 match from the state Major Gift Trust Fund.
“We are deeply grateful to the Ruebush Foundation for this generous gift,” Dean Terry Hynes said. “Our program and students are among the best in the nation. The gift will help us continue the legacy of recruiting and graduating top-notch journalism and communications practitioners.”
The late Walton and Florence Ruebush established the foundation in 1970.
Florence Ruebush worked as a feature editor and columnist at the Davenport Democrat. During World War II, she served as an editorial staff member at The Waterloo Daily Courier.
She was graduated from the University of Iowa, where she majored in journalism and belonged to Theta Sigma Phi, an honorary journalistic sorority.
Walton Ruebush, former president of Monarch Loan, was graduated from Illinois State University.
He was football team captain and a member of Gamma Phi, an honorary athletic fraternity.
