Former Mobil executive donates $850K NY condo
When Washington, D.C. residents Judy Lynn Prince, PR 1964, and Bob Haiman, JM 1958, visit Manhattan, they stay in her 60 Sutton Place South condominium. It allows them to engage in one of their favorite activities – going to the theater.
“We see literally everything on Broadway, most of everything on Off-Broadway, and a good portion of Off-Off Broadway,” said Prince, former Mobil Corporation executive television producer. “We see 125 shows a year.”
They celebrated Haiman’s 70th birthday by seeing “Faith Healer” and “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial” on Broadway.
Prince recently bequeathed her $850,000 condo, which she bought in 1974 for $35,000, to the College. It will transfer after she and Haiman die.
“This is a wonderful gift that will strengthen our program significantly,” said Director of Development Rebecca Hoover, PR 1982. “However, we hope to receive it a very long time from now.”
The College plans to sell the condo and use the money to establish the Judy Lynn Prince Professorship(s) Endowment fund, Hoover said. Professorships pay for professional development of faculty members, including travel and graduate assistants.
“It’s a perfect apartment,” Prince said about the condo. “I go up there twice a month. I have fabulous memories from there. Current memories, too.”
An alumna of distinction who made a separate $1 million bequest in 1997 to the College, Prince keeps busy as a volunteer in several organizations, such as the UF Foundation Board of Directors’ Communications/Public Relations Advisory Council, which she chairs. In June, she became president of the Smithsonian Women’s Committee.
