She is working on a master’s degree in adult education and is chairperson of Dress for Success, a nonprofit that provides interview clothing for low-income women. Joe Gazzam, ADV 1991, is a screenwriter who has signed a contract to write two feature-length screenplays for Tapestry Films. Delaney, JM 1962, has joined Ochlockonee Bay Realty in Panacea, Fla., as a sales associate for residential and land sales following a career in journalism and corporate communications management. He is a member of the Capital Area Gator Club in Tallahassee and a board member of Florida Foresight. Walker Lundy, JM 1965, was the subject of a cover story in the May 6 issue of Editor & Publisher. The story was titled “A Bridge to the Suburbs: Can new Editor Walker Lundy find much-needed readership for the ‘Inquirer” beyond the streets of Philadelphia?” Lauren Stoddard Linares, JM 1978, is environmental mitigation manager for the Turnpike District of the Department of Transportation. She lives in Lake Worth. John Manchester, JM 1981, runs a family business that publishes six community newspapers in upstate New York and Vermont. His flagship paper, The Granville Sentinel, was recently honored as the second best small weekly newspaper in New York by the New York State Press Association (against hundreds of weeklies). Ben Morehead, JM 1982, returned to IBM Global Services in June as a business development executive for the Business Continuity and Recovery Services unit. He’s also a prize-winning singles croquet club player. He lives in Ridgeview, Conn. Alberto M. Ortez Jr., JM 1982, is a copy editor for Newsday in Melville, N.Y. Bonnie Fischer Vanak, JM 1982, is a journalist and senior writer for Food For The Poor Inc., the fourth largest international charity in the U.S. She travels frequently to Haiti, Nicaragua and other developing countries to document the lives of the poor. Her first novel, The Falcon and the Dove, will be published in November by Leisure Books. She and her husband, Frank, live in Deerfield Beach. Rebecca “Becca” Moore, JM 1984, is director of volunteer programs for Habitat for Humanity in Phoenix. Michele Nicole Johnson McGill, JM 1988, is assistant features editor for The Greenville (S.C.) The Foundation has assets of more than $100 million to be used for projects involving access to health care, youth and older adults. J. Donald Turk, ADV 1968, PR 1972, has been promoted to Global Lubes Public Affairs Adviser, with responsibility for public relations support to Lubes on a worldwide basis. Diane Alterman Hatcher, PR 1973, is president and founder of Timesavers Services, a professional organizing service for office and home. She specializes in paper and time management. Her daughter, Heather, graduated in telecommunication from the College in May. Ira Griffith, PR 1974, is a retail advertising sales manager for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in one of ten territory zone offices. He joined the newspaper in May 1998 as sales supervisor for the Gwinnett County office. Prior to that he was major accounts manager for The Times in Gainesville, Ga. Lesley Richardson, PR 1984, is a full-time art student at Exeter College in England. Tracy Cary, PR 1985, and his wife, Susan, are new parents of Elijah David. They also have three daughters—Rachel, 13; Sara, 8; and Emma, 5. He practices law. They live in Alabama. His Christian rock band, 3 Days Later, has just released a CD. Greg Williams, PR 1986, is director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs for the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Susan, have a new daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, born March 7. Lee-Anne Oros, PR 1991, is an English teacher at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin, N.J. She earned a master’s in educational administration from Georgian Court College in Lakewood, N.J. and is pursuing a career in educational administration. Kevin Robb PR 1991, and Kerri Balabas, TEL 1995, are engaged to be married in Fall 2003 (“on an open football date”). They met through the Southern California Gator Club, where Kevin was president from 1998-2000. Gregory Forte, PR 1993, owns Innova Creative Training Solutions, a company dedicated to training and development in the areas of team building, sales, leadership and presentation skills. Judith M. Biller, PR 1995, is assistant director of student activities at Stanford University. She is engaged to be married next July. Elizabeth Lundsmark-Lassa, PR 1995, works with Seize the Day Business and Personal Coaching in Sarasota. Previously she was mid-Atlantic regional marketing manager at TLC Laser Eye Centers in Washington, D.C. She and her husband, Jon, have a son, Jon Luke, 10 mos. Jennifer “Jenny” Amon, PR 1999, is a senior account executive at Porter Novelli in New York City, working primarily on Masterfood USA account. She also works on a multi-city initiative with fire stations across the country for World No Tobacco Day. She began as an intern at Porter Novelli. Crystal Gozdur, PR 1999, is a marketing specialist for Raymond James Financial Services in St. Petersburg. Smith, TEL 1975, is South region sales manager for Bressler Outdoor Advertising in Sanford. His son, Nicholas, is a UF freshman. Frank Volpicella, TEL 1978, is executive news director of KVUE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Austin, Texas. Cynthia Thrower Brasington, TEL 1982, has relocated from Gainesville to Norfolk, Va., with her husband, Capt. Steve Brasington, who is a psychiatrist at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. She is studying toward certification as a congregational care specialist and doing a practicum with Talbot Baptist Church, which ministers to military families. She holds a degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Julie Silver, TEL 1984, is president of Boardroom Communications Inc., a Fort Lauderdale-based public relations company. One of her associates is Todd Templin, TEL 1984. Templin’s wife is Kristi Kreuger, TEL 1986, news anchor at WPLG-TV. Chip DiComo, TEL 1985, is director of information infrastructure (computer plumbing) at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics in Miami. Tim Reed, TEL 1985, is the director of the acquisition management graduate program and an assistant professor of entrepreneurship and strategic purchasing at the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio. He recently completed his Ph.D. degree in strategic management and entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado. Brooke Ziegler Chiappelli, TEL 1988, is branch manager for BSA Advertising in North Miami. She has two sons—Grant, 41/2, and Ethan, 2. Kelly McGee Erickson, TEL 1988, and her husband have a new son, Austin Clark, born March 24. He joins sisters Kimberly, 6, and Abby, 2. They live in Trinity, Fla. Joe Kivett, TEL 1988, is president of JacobDavis Productions/CardStunts.com. The firm creates audience participation card stunts for major sporting events. He also works as a producer for Walt Disney Entertainment in Orlando. Eden Kendall Mendell Thomas, TEL 1988, has been co-host of the “Big Ape Morning Zoo” on WAPE-FM in Jacksonville for the past seven years. She is also a freelance entertainment reporter for First Coast News, the local ABC and NBC affiliate. She and her husband have two children—Noah and Chloe. Heidi Hatfield Edwards, TEL 1989, has joined the faculty in communication at Penn State University following completion of her Ph.D. degree at the University of Georgia. Her husband, Ric Edwards, TEL 1987, MA 1997, is director of technology classrooms at Penn State. Mary Mueller Justino, TEL 1992, is public information coordinator for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in Green Cove Springs. She was assignment editor at WTLV-TV news in Jacksonville for seven years. She and her husband, Robby, have two children. Christy Stratton, TEL 1992, is a writer on the staff of the TV series “King of the Hill” on the FOX Network in Burbank, Calif. Michael Scott Noble, TEL 1993, is a commercial real estate attorney with Edwards & Cohen in Jacksonville. He earned a law degree in 1998. He and his wife have a new daughter born earlier this year. Her focus will be on commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense. The firm has 64 offices in 35 countries. Luis Ortega, MA 1981, teaches photography and video production in England while producing a videotape using material he shot in Cuba. He has also created a website containing materials written by his father, a longtime Cuban journalist. Linda S. Gray, TEL 1966, MA 1983,has left UFto become assistant vice president for university relations and director of news and public affairs at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Vincent Pellegrino, PR 1975, MA 1981, will receive his Ed.D. degree in education. administration and policy studies at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in December. His dissertation focused on the symbolic leadership of Jean Byers Sampson, an educator and civil rights activist. He has held advancement/development positions with the University of Southern Maine, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Drexel University. Most recently he was U.S. and European director for the Mellon Grant Foundation for the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti. Joshua Gertzog, MA 1983, is vice president/director of sales at Nassau Broadcasting in Princeton, N.J. He oversees sales for six radio stations, including WPST-FM, the 13th largest CHR radio station in the country. Sherri Korfin Lindenberg, PR 1983, MA 1984, has joined Marsh Global Technology Services in New York City as senior vice president. She will help rebuild an internal marketing/communications team that was lost in the World Trade Center tragedy. Marsh lost 300 employees. Jorge L. Ortiz, MA 1987, is a sportswriter for the San Francisco Chronicle and his wife, Julie Niswander Ortiz, MA 1987, a senior project manager for environmental communications at Public Affairs Management, a consulting firm. They have a new son, Oliver, born in May. Yaning LeBron Pickard Gutierrez, MA 1988, is marketing director for the Kraft Corp. in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Denise Prodigo-Hermann, MA 1994, runs a home-based soap business. She and her husband, Matt, a civil engineer are renovating a house built in the early 1900s. In summer 2000, they joined five frien ds on motor bikes and rode the Contin ental Divide Ride, a 2,600 2 1/2 month adventure from Canada to Mexico. Corliss Arthurton, MA 1996, received her law degree this summer from the School of Law at John F. Kennedy University in Oakland, Calif. Nicole Mikel-Brumfield, MA 2001, is a technical information specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Riverdale, Md. ph.d.Michael Hoefges, PhD 1998, is an assistant professor of advertising at the University of Tennessee. Alyse Gotthoffer Lancaster, PhD 1999, and her husband, Dr. Kent Lancaster, teach advertising at the University of Miami, where she is an assistant professor and he is an adjunct. Brigitta R. Brunner, PhD 2000, has relocated from the University of Northern Iowa to her alma mater, Auburn University, where she is assistant professor of public relations. Judy Robinson, MA 1994, PhD 2000, is an instructional technologist and designer for the UFCenter for Instructional Technology & Training. She has traveled to Brazil and Mexico as part of the Partnership for Global Learning. |
