KIM
DANG -- Hello there! I am a
junior English major with a minor in Mass Communications. Ever since I have
gotten my new camera it hasn't left my side. So, when I found this program
I knew that it would be the perfect opportunity for me to travel, learn,
and grow. I wouldn’t say that I’m excited for this trip, but I’m overly
thrilled to experience the history, people, culture and food of Germany!
This is my first time out of the country so I’m definitely a little
nervous, but there is a quote I read once from Susan Sontag that said “I
haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list” and I think that this trip to
Berlin is a great start.

MARLEY BOEREMA -- Hey! I'm from Saint Augustine, Florida.
I'm a first year journalism major at the
University of Florida. In my spare time I'm usually surfing, but when
I'm not in the water you'll probably find me somewhere with a camera.
I've had an interest in photography for as long as I can remember.
Last year I had a sports photography internship that really sparked
my interest in the field. I love traveling to new places and
surrounding myself with unfamiliar languages and cultures. I've been
to Europe on a couple occasions, but this will be my first time in Germany.

AUBREY STOLZENBERG
--
I’m a 21-year-old journalism major and Florida native who recently
transferred to the University of Florida. My interest in photography was
spurred by my father who studied the subject in Europe during college. I am
ecstatically looking forward to my first trip to Europe and experiencing
all that Berlin has to offer. I’d like to make the most of the opportunity
so feel free to contact me if you have any interest in exploring prior to
or following the program.

ERICA A. HERNANDEZ – I’m a junior studying journalism
with minors in history and education.
I’m interested in being a sports reporter after I graduate in May
2015 and I spend most of my time working hard towards that goal. In high
school I practiced film photography and really enjoyed it so I’m excited to
using some of those skills again. I can’t wait to explore and photograph
Berlin with my fellow Gators! I’m planning on traveling around Europe a bit
the two weeks before the course starts. Let me know if you’re interested in
joining me.

SHAYLA O’KEEFFE -- Hi everyone! I am
21 years old, studying criminology and minoring in anthropology. I
absolutely love photography, however. I am in the process of starting my
own photography business. I am a little nervous because I haven't been out
of the country on my own before, but I am definitely beyond excited to go!
I have been to Ireland and Italy before and can't wait to add Germany to
the list. Other than photography, I enjoy playing beach volleyball, reading
crime novels, watching crime shows, and laughing! I can't wait to meet
everyone else!

ALLISON DEUTCH --
Hello! I'm a second year double majoring in Marketing and Advertising. I've
always loved photography and am very excited to travel to Berlin to
photograph the city. I've never been to Germany so I am looking
forward to finally be visiting 'Deutchland.' I
did not think I'd be doing much art-wise in college so this trip is a very
welcome turn of events. I'll be abroad all of spring semester, so hopefully
by the end of both trips I'll have a new appreciation and understanding for
all these cultures.

|
LEANNA SCACHETTI -- Hello! I’m a third-year Telecom
News major with minors in Spanish and Latin American studies, which,
unfortunately, probably won’t help me in much in Berlin. Ask any of my
friends and they'll tell you the same thing: I'm the “camera girl” of the
group. Don't get me wrong; I don't mind being in front of a camera, but I
do find things quite fun from behind it and I’ve enjoyed photography since
middle school. I’m excited to study Photojournalism in Berlin with
you all this summer to enhance my skills to pursue a career in multi-media
reporting... not to mention a trip to an exciting, culturally rich, and
vibrant city! I’ve been abroad a bit, but this will be my first venture
into Germany! I’m excited to embark on this journey so I can work on
sharing stories that matter and pictures worth a thousand (German)
words."

SHAYNA TANEN –
Hello! I'm a sophomore Journalism major here at UF. I am beyond excited to
immerse myself in the culture of Berlin behind the camera and through the
food and art. Although I don't have much experience in photography, I have
always been interested in the subject and practice of it. My main interests
are cooking, reading and writing. I can't wait to meet and travel with all
of you!

|
ALEC CARVER -- Hey! I’m a freshman Journalism
major from Tampa, Florida. I’ve always been pretty interested in art and
photography, but it’s been years since the last time I was really using a
camera. I think going to Berlin with a bunch of other students is probably
going to change that. I’ve never been outside of North America before, so
I’m really excited to see what life is like in another hemisphere. From
what I can tell, Berlin seems like an amazing city and I can’t wait to swan
dive into it with a camera around my neck.

|
AMANDA DEMPSEY -- Hello! I’m a
second year Advertising and Anthropology double major from Dade City, FL.
I’m a Resident Assistant in Riker Hall and love museums. I’m not very
experienced in photography but it is something I have always expressed an
interest in and wanted to learn.
I’ve never been to Germany but I studied abroad last summer with the
CJC in Australia and absolutely fell in love with international travel. I
am so beyond excited to be headed to Berlin with you all and I have no
doubt that it will be an amazing experience!

ADRIANA BARBAT -- Hey y'all! I'm a
journalism sophomore at UF from Pompano Beach. I fell in love with Germany
on a vacation in 2008, but I never got to see Berlin. I really enjoy photography,
something I didn't find out until I took a photography class this year. I
also love Netflix, shopping and copy-editing. I'm beyond excited to meet
people, explore Berlin and improve my photography on the trip!

XIN LI -- I
am a graduate student of Telecommunication program at the College of
Journalism and Communications. I come from China and have been a world
traveler in the past four years, from North America to England. I am a
big fan of photography and documentary production and want to make as many

to be an accommodating and tasteful food hunting buddy to always have

JACOB NUTTING -- I am a Junior on
transfer from Daytona State College majoring in Political Science and
looking to expand my horizons by looking at various minors, of which
journalism is an option! I will be the first from my family to go to
university and I'm eager to take part in all the opportunities that this
entails, similarly this is my first time leaving the country to go to any
foreign nation and this is through UF's Study Abroad program.
Photography and journalism have always been interests of mine and I'm eager
to take part in this study abroad and meet the people of Berlin, as well as
meet people with similar interests that I'll hopefully see again in my time
at UF!

SHIBEI (IRENE) DING -- I’m a master’s student in journalism. I grew up
in Shenzhen, China and got my bachelor’s degree in Beijing. Travelling has
been thrilling to me since a very young age and using cameras to record the
trip is one of my favorites. I’ve spent a month in Britain several years
ago with a bunch of schoolmates and it was amazing. I can’t wait to
explore, taste and record Berlin with you guys and I’m sure we’ll have a
great time together!
|
|
DARON DEAN – Teaching Assistant – I’m
the photo editor of the St. Augustine Record and a 2004 graduate of the UF
College of Journalism. I’ve had internships at the Dallas Morning News and
at the Anchorage Daily News. My photographs have been published in various
national magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times. In fall
semesters, I teach JOU4604, Advanced Photojournalism I at UF. I look forward to helping you develop and
complete your projects in Berlin.

JOHN FREEMAN
-- I'm the professor taking the group to Berlin. This photo was taken
during my first experience living in Germany, when I was in the
second, third and fourth grades in Rodenbach,
near Ramstein Air Force Base. I've grown some
since then. My father was later assigned to Berlin, where I graduated from
high school. I'm a real sucker for nostalgia, and look forward to
returning to this fascinating city for my 10th study-abroad trip. My family
thinks that red hat belonged to my twin sister, but no one remembers why
I'm wearing it.
