BERLIN JOURNALISM STUDY-ABROAD MAY 2008
PARTICIPANTS

HANNAH BUNNING – Hello everyone!  I am a sophomore photojournalism major and I am so excited to take my first trip to Europe this summer.  I love to travel and I am looking forward to all the photo opportunities I will find in Berlin.  Photography is something that I have recently developed an interest in and I am excited to learn more about it in the upcoming semester and summer!

AMY USTJANOWSKI – I am 21 years old and a junior. I lived in Florida for the majority of my life, but love every place that I have visited more (although I do miss the beaches now that I am in Gainesville). I love taking pictures; I really wouldn't be going on this trip if I didn't. I also love to travel. I went to Poland last summer to meet a lot of my family for the first time, which was really exciting. I can't wait to return back to Europe and snap away! It's going to be quite the experience.

JASMINE LOUMA -- Hi  everyone! I’m a second-year journalism major with a minor in Spanish. I’ve always planned to specialize in photojournalism, but recently toyed with the idea of focusing in design.  I’m from St. Augustine, Fla., and traveling is my passion. I went to Peru last summer and I’ve been to Europe before, but never Germany, so I am very excited about this trip. I can’t wait to meet all of you!

AMELIA HARNISH – I’m a 19-year-old sophomore majoring in Journalism and English. I’ve never taken a photo class or been out of the country so this trip is going to be amazingly exciting for me. I first became interested in photojournalism after seeing the advertisement for this trip in the Weimer basement. I guess you could say I’m rather impulsive, but I can’t get through a day without my planner. I love reading and writing and am hoping to add photography to my list of favorite activities. See you in Berlin!

MEGAN MILLER – I’m a 20-year-old journalism major at UF.  I'm from the Orlando area and have lived there all my life.  A long time ago I went to Europe with my family, but I was young and we never visited Germany, so this trip will be a first and an exciting experience for me.  My concentration is in photo, so I'm just dying to see some new things and get some great shots on this trip.  Can't wait to meet everyone!

MICHELLE BACHMANN -- Hello there. I'm a journalism major in my final semester. YEAH!!! (I believe I just used up all my exclamation points for a lifetime) Perhaps just for U.S. soil. I'm excited about the trip, and the opportunity to combine my writing with photography. I'm looking forward to the trip and then traveling on to Paris and the French countryside with family. Can't wait to meet all of you. Until then, Michelle

CHEN WANG -- Hi everyone. At first, I thought this trip conflicted with my summer schedule. I cancelled some of my personal to-do things for the summer, and thus... I am going to Berlin! I am so excited about this trip. It’s going to be my first trip to Europe. I have seen the photos that were taken by the students in the past. I have to say that this is a must-go trip for photojournalism students. I look forward to taking some great photos in Berlin as well as making some good friends during the trip.

JULIANNA SAMPER -- Hi. I am 21 years old, and I am majoring in journalism and minoring in French. I am from Bogota, Colombia, and have been living here in Florida for six years. Traveling is my passion and I love to meet people from all around the world and learn about different cultures. This semester I am taking German, so I hope at the end I can speak and practice a little in Berlin. I am very excited about this program and meeting all of you!

ROBYN WILSON -- Hi! I just graduated from UF and now live in Seattle, working in the computer industry. I've been doing semi-serious photography for a few years, but am new to photojournalism. I also love to travel. Last year, I visited India, Singapore, Mexico, Canada, Denmark and the Netherlands. I've not been to Germany before, so this will be exciting for me!

CAITLIN HEALY -- Guten Tag! I am a second year journalism major soon to be minoring in French. I aspire to be a photojournalist and travel the world. I fell in love with Paris last summer while studying film and history there. My goal this summer is to tell some amazing stories with my photographs and to “go native” in Berlin. My mother was born in Germany and my father lived there as a child. I look forward to exploring the city, sampling its delicacies and photographing its characters. I plan to return to Paris and possibly Barcelona in June if anyone is interested in traveling together.

JENNIFER KEIL -- Hi Everyone! I'm a 21-year-old journalism junior minoring in business and leadership. I'm from the Orlando area and am psyched about going to Berlin! Not only am I looking forward to the trip as a photojournalistic experience, I'm also excited to visit Germany because I'm of German heritage and took German in high school. I have traveled to Australia, Israel, Ireland and the UK before, but I've never been to continental Europe. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and seeing what this beautiful city has to offer."
MEGAN TAYLOR -- I'm a journalism senior looking for some extra photo experience and a trip to Europe that I will actually remember (I went to Spain in 5th grade and all I remember is the smell of cigarette smoke and fantastic hot chocolate). I'm graduating this semester so this is my last college hurrah. I know a tiny bit of German. I love getting out of my comfort zone and having adventures.

ANDREW STANFILL -- I'm a junior photojournalism major and I've been looking forward to seeing other parts of the world for a few years now.  International photojournalism is one of my interests, so this will be testing the water.  I'm looking forward to having a great trip with you guys.

HARRISON DIAMOND --  I'm a PolySci freshman, traveler, and I fancy myself a photographer, too. I shoot with Andrew at the Alligator. I've long wanted to visit Germany, given its central role in the history of the past century, and since I've been to a few other European countries. I'm looking forward to experiencing it in a new way, with a more mature perspective than I had the last time I went to Europe. I can't think of a better way to do it than with you guys!

JOHN FREEMAN -- I'm the professor taking the group to Berlin. This photo was taken during my first experience living in  Germany, when I was in the second, third and fourth grades in Rodenbach, near Ramstein Air Force Base. I've grown some since then. My father was later assigned to Berlin, where I graduated from high school.  I'm a real sucker for nostalgia, and look forward to returning to this fascinating city for my fourth study-abroad trip. My family thinks that red hat belonged to my twin sister, but no one remembers why I'm wearing it.
