How does a person become homeless? Every story is different.

Hundreds of homeless people live in Gainesville, a college town in north central Florida with a population of almost 100,000. How do they survive? Where do they sleep? What happens when they need medical care?

Did you know that some homeless people work full time?

In the spring of 2003, a class of eight journalism students at the University of Florida undertook a reporting project about homelessness in the local community. They had six weeks to research, report, write, edit, and produce a Flash presentation for the Web.

These are the stories they reported.

This package was completed and published in May 2003.
