Graduate-level courses in Internet research and content analysis prepare students to conduct independent studies of the uses and effects of media. Every new communication technology affects and reshapes the people who adopt it, even as they adapt the technology to satisfy them. The Internet raises new questions about command and control, hegemony, propaganda, credibility, agenda setting, the knowledge gap, and more.

The graduate course New Media and a Democratic Society (MMC 6441) is offered every fall semester. Other online theory courses are offered on a varying schedule as Special Topics in Mass Communicaton (MMC 6936).
