DAVID CARLSON

Cox Foundation/Palm Beach Post Professor in New Media Journalism, David Carlson came to the university in 1993 from a professional career in journalism. He spent more than 20 years working at newspapers of all sizes in all manner of jobs, from reporter-photographer to city editor, design editor, executive editor and new media director. He launched The Electronic Trib at The Albuquerque (N.M.) Tribune in 1990; it is thought to have been the first interactive newspaper in the world housed on a personal computer. He serves as a national director of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation.

Professor Carlson teaches Communications on the Internet (MMC 3260), Applied Interactive Newspapers (MMC 4946) and Survey of Electronic Publishing (MMC 5015). Information about his courses is online.
