UF NPPA chapter best in the country

(May 16, 2005) The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) named its University of Florida chapter the Outstanding Student Chapter for 2004-2005. The award will be presented in San Antonio following a meeting of the Board of Directors June 25.

Led by photojournalism senior Liza Shurik and faculty adviser John Freeman, the chapter held several events during the past year, including a standing-room-only, 2-hour presentation by Sports Illustrated Photographer Bill Frakes and a student portfolio review night with five editor/photographers from throughout the state.

Freeman founded the UF student chapter and has been the group's adviser since 1992.
