Nov07 2007-08 Scholarship applications available

The undergraduate application for scholarships and assistantships awarded by the College of Journalism and Communications for the 2007-08 year is available.

One application is all you need to complete to be considered for scholarships and assistantships. Scholarships are for the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 semesters.

Applications can be found at the following locations:

  1. Knight Division, 1080 Weimer Hall
  2. Student Services Office, 1000 Weimer Hall
  3. On the Web.

The deadline to apply is February 1st, 2007.

The University of Florida will soon have the next student chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. The informational meeting will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 7 p.m. in Reitz Union room 346.

The Association of Black Communicators (ABC) presents the “Communicating Out of the Box” Media Conference on Saturday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. -2 p.m. in 1064 Weimer Hall. The conference is free and open to all students.

Mar21 Journalism and Communications College Council accepting board nominations

The Journalism and Communications College Council (JCCC) will be accepting nominations for its executive board for the 2006-2007 school year. All those interested in getting involved with JCCC should attend the meeting on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 6:30 p.m. in Weimer 1074.

Applications will also be accepting for those students interested in serving as At Large Members of the council. These students must be members of the College. Students interested in an At Large position should e-mail a resume and a brief statement about your interest in JCCC to Gordon Van Owen at editor02@ufl.edu.

Feb22 JCCC Week, Feb. 27 - March 1

The Journalism and Communications College Council’s JCCC Week kicks-off Monday, February 27, and continues through March 1, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Weimer Courtyard. Each night we will be offering two or three computer training sessions on the various programs essential to success at UF and in the College.

You must sign up at 6 p.m. in Weimer Courtyard the day of the workshop to participate in that day’s workshop.

All students that attend will be invited to a College social at the Swamp Retaurant on Thursday, March 2, following the Journalism and Communications Ambassadors orientation. The social will be from 8:30-11:30 p.m.

Feb20 Peace Corps recruiter on campus, Feb. 22

On Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 11:45 am, SASA (Students in African
Studies) will host Amy Panikowski, the Peace Corps Campus Recruiter (and graduate student in Anthropology) from the University of Florida. The event will be held in 471 Grinter Hall.

Amy volunteered in the Peace Corps in Malawi from 2001-2002, and will speak about different Peace Corps programs in Africa, the Peace Corps process, and some statistics about Peace Corps in Africa. There will also be a video presentation about volunteers in Africa, and returned Peace Corps voluneers who served in Africa will be present to share their stories.

Communicate your experience to employers at career fairs and information sessions with ease. Learn helpful tips to market yourself during interviews. (Workshop exercises will be more helpful if you bring your resume)

Thursday March 9, 11:45 a.m. – 12: 35 p.m. and 12:50 p.m. – 1:40 p.m. Career Fair Preparation & The Job Search

The Religion Newswriters Association has a reporting and writing contest for college students. First prize is $500.
