Nov10 — Sun features John Freeman's piece on the fall of the Berlin Wall
The Gainesville Sun on Nov. 8 published “When the wall came down,” a guest column by Photojournalism professor John Freeman, “The fall of the Berlin Wall on Nov. 9, 1989, was emotional and personal for me. I had lived in the divided city at the height of the Cold War as a high school student.”

Oct23 — Kaplan, Molleda quoted in Brazilian newspaper
Jornal TRI quoted Journalism professor John Kaplan and Public Relations professor Juan-Carlos Molleda in “Planet Journalism,” an article about the importance of university degrees in practicing and teaching journalism. Jornal TRI is published by the University Feevale in Southern Brazil, a partner of our College.
Oct19 — Finkel's Iraq chronicle reviewed in NY Times
Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post editor and alumni of distinction David Finkel’s book, The Good Soldiers, is reviewed in The New York Times articles “Their Corner of the War” and “Ground War: The Iraq Surge Grunts Knew.”
Oct13 — Ocala Star-Banner runs Clay Calvert op-ed
The Ocala Star-Banner on October 11 published “Permission not to speak: Show me the note,” an op-ed piece by Brechner Eminent Scholar in Mass Communication Clay Calvert “regarding the U.S Supreme Court’s decision last week to leave intact a Florida law requiring students who do not want to say the Pledge of Allegiance to first get permission from a parent.”

Brechner eminent scholar Clay Calvert is now featured in the University of Florida Spotlight series on the UF Web site.
Sep28 — Pennsylvania paper quotes Clay Calvert about First Amendment case
The York Daily Record quotes Clay Calvert about the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit’s decision this past week in the Westboro Baptist Church funeral protest case of Snyder v. Phelps in the story, Experts: Appeal unlikely to be heard Westboro case.
Aug31 — Alligator features student photo exhibit
A photography exhibit by journalism seniors Kelly McLarnon and Lauren Langston was featured in the August 31 story in The Independent Florida Alligator, “Photography exhibit features UF students’ travels.” Some of the exhibited photos were from the Berlin 2009 study abroad program led by photojournalism professor John Freeman, who is quoted in the article.
