Al Gunther talks about the hostile media effect

Dr. Albert C. Gunther of the University of Wisconsin-Madison talks with faculty and graduate students from the College on April 13, 2009 about his research into audience perceptions of media bias.

Dr. Gunther is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Life Sciences Communication at the University of Wisconsin‐Madison. His research interests focus on the psychology of the mass media audience – often in the context of scientific controversies or public health. Recent research examines assumptions of powerful media influence on others (the thirdperson effect), and perceptions of media bias (the hostile media effect). Gunther publishes in most major communication journals and has received funding from numerous sources including the USDA, NSF, NIH, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He teaches courses in journalism writing and graduate seminars in theory and research methods.
