Hon is appointed to Flanagan professorship

(September 26, 2003) Dr. Linda Hon, associate professor, Public Relations, has been appointed the first Al and Effie Flanagan Professor in Journalism and Communications, Dean Terry Hynes announced today.

This appointment recognizes Hon's outstanding record in teaching, research and service, especially during the past five years.  The professorship provides the faculty member with approximately $6,500 salary during Summer A for three summers and up to $17,000 during each of the three fiscal years of the appointment to support a graduate student (stipend, tuition/fees, administrative costs) of the faculty member's choice.  Support for the graduate student may be spent during the academic year or during the summer, depending on the needs of the Flanagan Professor and other factors related to hiring the graduate student. This term professorship is a three-year appointment.  The holder of the professorship is eligible to apply for reappointment at the end of the term.

The professorship was made possible by the generous bequest of Al Flanagan, a 1941 graduate and 1980 Alumnus of Distinction of the College, who was a long-time Gannett employee and vice president of Gannett Broadcasting.
