AM850 WRUF Wins State Broadcaster Awards

(April 2, 2001) The Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Association has given AM 850 WRUF two first place awards in its statewide contest. The two entries are for spot news and sports, both done by AM 850 WRUF news staff members.

WRUF received first place in spot news for "The Kidnapping of Jessica", a series of reports about the disappearance of the little Gilchrist County girl to her return. Reporters were Mandy Taylor, Grayson Kamm and Greg Schaefer. WRUF also received first place in sports, for a three part series, "Kids and Sports", a look at how kids behave, or rather don't, in the world of sports. Reporter Jeff Cardozo did this series.

Earlier this year, staff members Neal Boling and Vivian Richardson were honored by the Radio Television News Directors Association, for a radio documentary. RTNDA named WRUF's documentary on the 10th anniversary of the Gainesville student murders a regional Edward R. Murrow winner.
