“Covering Africa: Focus on Islam” Media Workshop coming February 20
(February 18, 2003) On February 20th, 2003, The Center for African Studies and the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida, Gainesville, will host a one-day workshop on news coverage of Africa, with an emphasis on Islam. The goal of the workshop is to improve the coverage of Islam and Africa in our Florida media. The workshop wil take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in room 3032 of Weimer Hall at the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida, in Gainesville.
All Florida media professionals with an interest in improving coverage of Islam and Africa in the U.S. press are invited to participate in the workshop.
The workshop format will be similar to the conference held here last year in partnership with John Ullman of the World Press Institute, with participation by working American and African journalists, specialists in Islam from religion and politics, broadcast and print news editors and journalism students.
Lunch is free for the first 20 registered media participants.
