Photojournalist Essdras Suarez is a 1993 graduate of the College of Journalism and Communications. He shared in the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Columbine High School tragedy.
He won the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for his story that followed the journey home of the body of a 14-year old Guatemalan boy killed when a vanload of unidentified immigrant workers crashed on a rural road in Colorado. After photographing the crash scene and learning about its victims, Suarez documented the return of the body of the boy, Osveli Slaes Vasques, to his family in the Guatemalan town of Cucuna, where he was buried.
Suarez's presentation will feature photographs from his portfolio, including his coverage of the war in Iraq.
