FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate visits WRUF-TV6

FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate speaks with UF Meteorologist Jeff Huffman on air about Tropical Storm Isaac.

FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate is in high demand as Tropical Storm Isaac makes headlines as it takes an eerily similar path as Hurricane Katrina. Fugate stopped by the studios at the UF College of Journalism and Communications on Monday to do live shots with CNN, the Weather Channel and NBC’s “The Today Show.” He took time to speak with UF Meteorologist Jeff Huffman about the university and its plan for the storm.

“You need to really think of the University of Florida as a city within a city,” Fugate said. “There’s kids that come here from all over the country and they don’t know anything about the local community – it’s important that this station and the folks here provide that communication.”

WRUF-TV6 has partnered with UF to keep campus informed of severe weather outbreaks including Tropical Storm Isaac.

“When you look at the history of journalism at UF they’ve always been a leader,” said Fugate.
