 Director of Inclusion

The colleges of Health and Human Performance, Journalism and Communications, and Law seek a candidate to assume the role of Director of Inclusion. The director will be responsible for using a collaborative approach to guide the three colleges in enhancing diversity and supporting a climate of inclusion with respect to race and ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, class, culture, and religion. Among other things, he or she will help develop and implement strategies related to issues of inclusion and diversity within the colleges — including, but not limited to, recruitment and retention of students and faculty, teaching, curriculum, communication strategies, facilitation of open and timely discussions around issues and events, career readiness, and so forth. This oversight will focus on all major stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni. The director will help develop and assess metrics for success regarding a climate of inclusivity.

The position will be a two-year, full-time appointment with the possibility for renewal based upon mutual agreement between the colleges and candidate. The director will report to Deans Diane McFarlin, Mike Reid and Laura Rosenbury on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities:

  1.  Evaluate the colleges’ climate, diversity and inclusiveness on an ongoing basis and recommend to strategies and tactics for a more inclusive culture.
  2. Oversee efforts to ensure faculty recruitment is not only unbiased, but attracts and builds pools of diverse candidates.
  3. Work with other UF diversity and inclusion organizations, e.g. Division of Multicultural and Diversity Affairs, to provide ongoing training and education.
  4. Provide guidance and support to student-led diversity and inclusion efforts.
  5. Develop outreach programs with alumni, industry executives and scholars.
  6. Serve as an ombudsman for students and faculty on issues related to exclusionary behavior.
  7. Make recommendations on curriculum that can enhance a better understanding of different races and ethnicities, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, class, cultures, and religions.
  8. Facilitate conversations around diversity and inclusion.
  9. Develop career preparation programs specifically targeted at underserved segments.
  10. Develop strategies to increase minority student awareness and interest in relevant careers both at the high school and undergraduate level

Minimum Qualifications:  Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and eight years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: An advanced academic or professional degree and leadership experience in areas of inclusion and diversity.

Compensation: $80,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience.
