Programs for High School Students
Florida Scholastic Press Association
A major service provided by the College of Journalism and Communications to the schools in Florida is supporting the Florida Scholastic Press Association, Inc., a not-for-profit organization. FSPA, established in 1945, is an organization for high school and middle school journalism students and teachers.
FSPA helps teachers be effective classroom instructors by offering training programs through district
workshops and a state convention. FSPA develops instructional materials and awards scholarships for
teachers to take college courses and to attend workshops/seminars to improve their journalism/media
training. FSPA also works with the Florida Department of Education to develop journalism
certification standards and to promote improved journalism instruction.

Summer Journalism Institute
An intense and fun six days of journalism instruction open to rising
10th, 11th and 12th graders who have recommendations from their publication
advisers or principals.

Summer Journalism Visitation
The Summer Journalism Visitation at the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications is a free one-day career experience for students in grades 8-11. Students learn writing, reporting, editing, photography and communications skills for newspaper, broadcast, and photojournalism. Students also gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology. Role Models Foundation is
a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to educational, charitable,
and scientific purposes. The foundation provides programs and activities
for young people, especially those who experience barriers. The foundation,
with Role Models Today online publication for youth and by youth as its
main engine, teaches by example and dedicates itself to developing journalists,
leaders and involved citizens.
