Master’s of Mass Communication:
Telecommunication Specialization

The Telecommunication track combines courses in Mass Communication, Telecommunication, and other areas relevant to the student’s goals. There is a thesis track, appropriate for students who will later seek the Ph.D. or who wish to learn the skills and knowledge associated with thesis research; and a non-thesis track appropriate for students who seek the MA as a terminal degree. The non-thesis track requires successful completion of a six-hour comprehensive examination or an appropriate project. Internship credit may be used to fulfill degree requirements in the non-thesis track.   The Telecommunication track is designed for students with the following interests:

A very limited number of students (1-3 per year) may be admitted in the area of broadcast journalism. Most work in this area is in the form of volunteer work and similar experiences at the University’s commercial and non-commercial radio and television facilities located in Weimer Hall. Additional experience may be acquired through internships. There is very limited graduate level coursework available in broadcast news. Students selected for this specialization may come from any undergraduate discipline.

The Telecommunication track does not include course work or other experience in video or audio production.
